Product details

The Hayward HAXGSV0003 is the genuine propane gas valve for H-Series ED1 millivolt pool heaters.

Match fuel and control system

Two details decide whether this is your valve. It is propane, so a natural gas heater needs a different Hayward part. And it is for millivolt heaters, where the pilot flame itself generates the small voltage that holds the valve open, with no control board in the circuit. Check the data plate before ordering.

What it does

Once the pilot proves and the thermostat calls for heat, the gas valve is what lets fuel through to the main burners. A heater whose pilot lights and holds but whose burners never come on, with good generator output, is pointing at the valve.

Have a qualified gas technician do the swap and leak test the connections afterward.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Can I use this on a natural gas heater?
No. HAXGSV0003 is the propane version. Natural gas H-Series heaters use a different Hayward gas valve.
What is a millivolt gas valve?
On a millivolt system there is no control board powering the valve. The pilot flame generates a small voltage that holds the valve open, so the valve itself is built for that circuit.
The pilot lights but the burners never come on. Is this the fix?
That is the classic gas valve symptom on a millivolt heater, once you have confirmed the pilot is strong and the generator or thermocouple output is good.
Can I install this myself?
Gas valve replacement is licensed work in most places, and the connection has to be leak tested afterward. Use a qualified gas technician.
