The Raypak B-R406A-EP-X is the 399,000 BTU propane gas pool and spa heater, built to ASME with a digital IID control, a bronze header and a cupro-nickel heat exchanger, and rated for installation from 0 to 2000 ft elevation. Raypak part number 017414.
Why this build
The 400 size Raypak is offered in several configurations, and this is the heavy end of the range. ASME certification is what many commercial and code driven installations call for. The bronze header and the cupro-nickel exchanger are the corrosion resistant pairing, chosen for salt water pools and for water chemistry that would chew through a standard copper and polymer build.
ProTek Shield
Raypak fits this heater with ProTek Shield, a module that protects the heat exchanger and extends its life. It is engineered to absorb the corrosion that occurs naturally over time, so erosion of the shield itself is a sign that it is working. Raypak lists it as suitable for chlorinated and salt water pools, compact, and easy to replace.
