The Pentair MasterTemp 460776 is the 400,000 BTU propane pool heater in the low NOx ASME configuration. It runs on electronic ignition with digital temperature control, and a copper heat exchanger is listed for this model.

Living with it

MasterTemp is built to be operated like the heating system in a house rather than a piece of pool equipment. Indicator lights on the front tell you what it is doing at a glance, the cabinet is compact for its output, and it runs quietly enough not to take over the pool deck.

Read this before ordering the ASME model

Pentair ASME heaters do not ship with tubes and unions, and those parts are no longer available to purchase separately. Only order this model if you are certain the hookups from your previous Pentair ASME heater are still in place and usable. It is the single most common problem with an ASME replacement.

Delivery

A heater of this size ships by freight and needs a delivery appointment, so plan the install date around the shipment rather than the other way round.

Does this heater come with tubes and unions?
No. Pentair ASME model heaters do not include tubes and unions as standard equipment, and those parts are no longer available to buy, so only order this model if the hookups from your previous Pentair ASME heater are in place.
Is this natural gas or propane?
Propane. This is the LP version of the 400,000 BTU MasterTemp.
Is this the copper or the cupro nickel heat exchanger?
The record for this heater lists a copper heat exchanger. Pentair also describes a heavy duty MasterTemp with a cupro nickel exchanger for low pH, high flow or heavy use, which is a different model, so confirm which one your application calls for.
How does it ship?
By freight. A 400,000 BTU heater is well beyond parcel weight and needs a delivery appointment.
