Product details

This is the Hayward SPX0580Z1, the face rim lockscrew with its fastener for SP0580 series and DuraLite pool lights. It is the genuine Hayward part, supplied as the screw and fastener together.

Small part, whole job

A pool light is held in its niche by one face rim screw. That screw takes the load of a buoyant fixture that wants to float out, and it does it while sitting underwater for years. Two things happen to it: it corrodes into the niche and shears when someone tries to remove it, or it goes into the deep end during a bulb change and is never seen again. Either way the light cannot go back in until the screw is replaced.

Fitting and checking

Use penetrating oil and patience on a seized screw rather than leverage, because a snapped head in a niche is a much bigger repair. When the new screw goes in, seat the fixture squarely so the face rim pulls down evenly and does not distort the lens gasket. The source lists this part at 1-1/2 in., so compare it against your old screw if the length looks unfamiliar.
