Product details

The Hayward FDXLHXA1400 is the heat exchanger assembly for the H400FD Universal H-Series Low NOx pool and spa heater. It is the genuine Hayward replacement, supplied as a complete assembly so it drops in where the original came out.

What it does

The heat exchanger is the heart of a gas heater. Pool water passes through it while the burner heats it from below, and everything the heater does depends on that transfer working. When an exchanger scales up, corrodes or starts to leak, the symptoms show up as poor heating, water in the cabinet or tripped safeties, and the fix is a new assembly.

Fit

This assembly is specific to the H400FD. The other sizes in the Universal H-Series, H150FD through H350FD, use their own exchangers, so confirm the model on your heater's rating plate before ordering. If the plate reads H400FD, this is the part.

Which heater does this fit?
The Hayward H400FD, the 400 size of the Universal H-Series Low NOx line. Check the model on the rating plate inside the access panel; the FD suffix is what matters.
Will it fit an H350FD or H300FD?
No. Each size in the H-Series uses its own heat exchanger assembly. This one is specific to the H400FD.
Is this a genuine Hayward part?
Yes. FDXLHXA1400 is the Hayward factory part number for the H400FD heat exchanger assembly.
What else usually gets replaced with the exchanger?
It depends on what caused the failure, but the front header, the thermistor and the bypass cartridge are the parts most often refreshed at the same time, since the header comes off to do the job anyway.
