The Hayward HAXHXA1153 is the heat exchanger assembly for the 150,000 BTU H-Series pool heater. It is the genuine Hayward part, supplied complete rather than as separate tubes and headers.
What the exchanger does
The heat exchanger is where the burner flame gives up its heat to the water passing through the heater. Everything else in the cabinet exists to feed it gas, air and flow. When it corrodes through, the heater either leaks water into the cabinet or trips out on its safeties, and no amount of work on the gas train will fix it.
Fitment
This assembly is for the 150,000 BTU heater. It covers the H-150 millivolt version as well as the electronic ED1 style and electronic ED2 style heaters, so it suits both older and later cabinets at that output. Larger H-Series heaters use a different exchanger.
Before you order
Confirm the BTU rating on the heater data plate. Water chemistry is the usual cause of exchanger failure, so it is worth correcting low pH or high salt levels before the new assembly goes in.
