The Hayward HAXPLT1931 is the natural gas pilot assembly for H-Series pool heaters. It is the genuine Hayward part, supplied complete rather than as separate pieces.
What the pilot does
On a gas heater the pilot is the small flame that has to be proven before the main burner is allowed to fire. It lights first, the control confirms it, and only then does gas reach the burner tray. If the pilot is fouled with debris, corroded, or will not hold a flame, the heater goes through its start sequence and shuts down without ever producing heat.
