Product details

Hayward IDXLIGN1930 is the 240 volt hot surface ignitor used in the Universal H-Series Low NOx induced draft heaters. It is the genuine Hayward part and comes with the plug already fitted.

What you are getting

The body is ceramic, with the hot surface portion formed in a shape close to an M. Two 5 inch wires run out of the body to a two pin AMP style plug. Overall it measures about 9-1/2 inches from the plug to the far end, with a 4-3/8 inch body not counting the wires and plug, a 2-9/16 inch hot surface section, 2-1/4 inches wide and 1 inch front to back.

Why they fail

A hot surface ignitor spends its life going from cold to glowing and back, and ceramic does not do that forever. A heater that clicks through its sequence, purges, and then locks out without lighting is often looking at an ignitor that no longer reaches temperature, or one that has cracked.

Fitting

Shut off the gas and kill power at the breaker before opening the heater. Handle the new ignitor by its base and keep your fingers off the ceramic, since oil from skin creates a hot spot. Set it in the same position in the burner as the one you removed.

How long is it?
About 9-1/2 inches overall from the plug to the far end. The body alone is 4-3/8 inches, the M shaped hot surface portion is 2-9/16 inches, the width is 2-1/4 inches and it is 1 inch front to back.
Any advice on fitting a new one?
Hold it by the base, never by the ceramic, and do not touch the hot surface with bare fingers. Isolate power at the breaker and shut off the gas before you open the heater, and check that the new ignitor sits at the same position in the burner as the old one.
