The Hayward IDXL2IGN1930 is the silicon nitride hot surface igniter for Low NOx H-Series pool heaters built after 9/20/2004. It is the genuine Hayward part and appears in the H-Series Low NOx 250 and 400 parts breakdown.
What it does
A hot surface igniter takes line voltage, glows orange, and lights the gas at the burner. There is no pilot flame to relight, so when the element cracks or loses continuity the heater goes through its whole start sequence, fails to prove flame, and locks out. That symptom, a heater that runs the blower and then quits without lighting, points at the igniter more often than anything else.
Getting the right one
Hayward changed igniters partway through the H-Series run. This is the later silicon nitride part for heaters made after September 2004, so read the date of manufacture on the rating plate rather than going by model number alone. Handle the new element by its ceramic base when you fit it, because the tip chips and cracks easily and a damaged element fails early.
