Quick overview
- Genuine Pentair part The factory 522101 solar temperature sensor, not a generic thermistor.
- For Suntouch control systems Listed by Pentair as the solar temperature sensor for Suntouch.
- Reads the collector Mounts at the solar array so the controller can compare panel temperature against pool temperature.
- Drives the solar valve Without a good reading the system either never diverts to the panels or runs them when they are cold.
- Solar position only This is the solar sensor, separate from the water and air sensors on the same controller.
- Direct replacement Swaps for the original sensor on an installed system, no controller changes needed.

Product details
The Pentair 522101 is the genuine replacement solar temperature sensor for Suntouch control systems. It is the same sensor Pentair fits at the factory.
What it does
Solar heating only helps when the panels are hotter than the pool. The solar sensor sits at the collector array and reports that temperature back to the controller, which compares it with the water reading and decides whether to send flow up to the roof. Get that reading wrong and the system either sits idle on a good day or pushes water through cold panels and loses heat.
When to replace it
Sensors live outdoors in full sun and eventually drift or fail open. If the controller displays a solar temperature that cannot be right, or your solar valve never actuates on a hot afternoon, replace the sensor before you start troubleshooting the valve or the actuator.
