What it does
A telescopic pole is an open tube, and the cap is what closes the end. It is a small piece and it is the one most often lost, usually pulled off while the pole is being dragged out of a storage rack or a truck bed.
Why replace it
An uncapped pole takes on water every time it goes in the pool and holds grit inside the section. That is what corrodes the tube and eventually makes the sections bind so the pole will not extend or collapse cleanly. Fitting a cap is a great deal cheaper than replacing a seized pole.
