Product details

The Waterway HD pressure relief valve assembly, part number 550-6730, also listed as 550-4230. It is the genuine Waterway part and it arrives as a complete assembly.

What it is for

A pressure relief valve is a safety device. It lets pressure escape before it can build to a level the vessel it protects was never designed to hold. Because it spends almost all of its life doing nothing, it is easy to forget, and it is usually only noticed once it has started to weep or has seized.

Two numbers, one part

You may see this assembly under either 550-6730 or 550-4230. Both refer to the HD assembly, so an old label carrying the other number is not a sign you have the wrong part.

Questions and answers

What people ask about this product, answered by our pool techs.

Is this the complete assembly?
Yes. It is supplied as the assembled Waterway HD pressure relief valve.
Why does it show two part numbers?
It is listed as 550-6730 and as 550-4230. Both numbers are used for this assembly, so either may appear on your old part or on an invoice.
What does the HD mean?
It is the heavy duty version of the Waterway relief valve assembly.
When should it be replaced?
If the valve weeps constantly, will not reseal after venting, or is seized shut, replace it. A relief valve only earns its keep if it can open and close reliably.
