What it is for

A pressure relief valve is a safety device. It lets pressure escape before it can build to a level the vessel it protects was never designed to hold. Because it spends almost all of its life doing nothing, it is easy to forget, and it is usually only noticed once it has started to weep or has seized.

Two numbers, one part

You may see this assembly under either 550-6730 or 550-4230. Both refer to the HD assembly, so an old label carrying the other number is not a sign you have the wrong part.
