The Jandy R0442100 is the factory rebuild kit for the SVLV8, SVLV2 and BWVL-SLD slide valves. It gathers every wearing part of the valve into one package so a leaking or stiff valve can be brought back rather than replaced.
What is in the kit
You get the lid o-ring, the top shaft o-ring, the bottom shaft o-ring and two union tail piece o-rings, plus the handle pin and the shaft pin, and the index plate with its lid. That covers the three places a slide valve normally gives trouble: the lid, the shaft where the handle passes through, and the union connections at each end.
When to rebuild
Elastomer seals harden with age, chlorine and heat. A valve that weeps at the shaft when the pump runs, drips at the lid, or has grown stiff enough to fight the handle is telling you the o-rings are done. Replacing them is far quicker than cutting the valve out of the plumbing.
Because the union tail piece o-rings are included, the valve can be broken loose at the unions and resealed without touching the pipe itself.
