What it does
Air that comes into the system through a leaking suction line or after a cartridge clean collects at the highest point inside the filter dome. The bleed tube reaches up into that space so the air can travel to the manual relief valve on top of the lid. Open the valve and the air goes first, water follows, and the tank is full again. Take the tube away and the air has nowhere to go: it sits in the dome, cuts down the working area of the cartridges, and the relief valve spits water while the filter still sounds hollow.
