The Hayward SP1082FV is the white float valve assembly for the Auto-Skim series skimmer, SP1080. It measures 7-7/8 by 6-5/8 inches and comes assembled.
What it protects
The float rides on the water in the skimmer throat. When the pool level drops far enough that the skimmer would start pulling air, the float falls and closes off the suction line. That forces the pump to draw from the main drain instead, which is what stops a dry pump and a cooked seal after a hot week or a leak.
