Product details

The 08650-4404 is the U-3 inground skimmer, sold under the Pentair, Sta-Rite and SwimQuip names. It is the gunite pattern skimmer, molded in white ABS and supplied complete with its lid and frame.

Where it belongs

A U-3 is set into a concrete or gunite shell, with the throat opening at the waterline and the body encased in the wall. That is a different job from a vinyl liner skimmer, which bolts to a flat wall panel with a gasketed faceplate, so the two are not interchangeable.

Plumbing

The ports are listed as 2 inch slip, with 1-1/2 inch slip reducers listed as part of the assembly. Check what your existing suction and return lines actually are before committing, because on an older pool the plumbing in the ground is not always the size the original paperwork suggests.

Setting a skimmer into a concrete shell is a construction job, not a swap. If this is a replacement rather than a new build, plan on breaking out and repouring the surrounding deck and bond beam work.
