Product details

The Hayward HAXHXA1203 is the heat exchanger assembly for the 200,000 BTU H-Series pool heater. It is the genuine Hayward part, supplied as a complete assembly.

What it does

The heat exchanger is the core of the heater. Pool water runs through it, the burner fires beneath it, and the heat moves from one to the other. Everything else in the cabinet exists to control that transfer safely.

When it needs replacing

Exchangers fail by leaking. The tell is water under the heater that appears only when the pump runs, or water dripping inside the cabinet rather than at a plumbing union. Once an exchanger is through, no amount of tightening will save it.

Before you fit a new one

Find out why the old one failed. Corrosion from low pH, high salt or heavy sanitizer is the usual cause, and a new exchanger installed into the same water will fail the same way. Match the BTU rating exactly: this assembly is the 200,000 BTU version.

Which heater does this fit?
The 200,000 BTU Hayward H-Series heater. Hayward lists it under H-Series heater parts including the ED2 electronic models.
Does the BTU rating have to match?
Yes. The exchanger is sized to the burner output, so a 200,000 BTU assembly belongs in a 200,000 BTU heater and nothing else.
How do I know the exchanger is leaking?
Water under the heater that only appears while the pump is running, or a heater that drips from inside the cabinet rather than at a union, points at the exchanger.
Why did the old one fail?
Usually water chemistry. Low pH and high sanitizer or salt levels corrode an exchanger from the inside, and a new one will go the same way if the water is not corrected.
