What it replaces
These filters use a tank split across the middle and held together by a lock ring. This part is the bottom half. If the shell has cracked, split at the clamp lip or gone chalky and brittle with age, it has to be replaced rather than repaired, because the tank is a pressure vessel.

The cartridges or grids, the internal assemblies and the plumbing connections all move to the new shell. While the filter is open it is worth checking the lock ring, the safety latch and the tank body O-ring, since those are the parts that wear alongside the shell.
