Jandy Mechanical Seal, 5/8" ID

The Jandy R0479400 is the Pro Series mechanical shaft seal, a carbon and ceramic pair with a 5/8 in. inside diameter on the ceramic. It is the genuine Jandy part for Stealth SHPF and SHPM pumps from serial number P08FF0001 onward, for the Zodiac Jandy ePump JEP variable speed pumps, and for the Flo Pro FHPM and VS-FHP variable speed models.

5/8 in. or 13/16 in.

Stealth pumps changed shafts partway through production. Revision N and earlier impellers sat on a double stepped shaft and need a seal with a 13/16 in. inside diameter on the ceramic. Revision P and later have no step where the impeller mounts, and those pumps take this 5/8 in. seal. Check the revision or measure the shaft before ordering.

When to replace it

The shaft seal is what keeps pool water out of the motor. Replace it every time the impeller comes off, and any time water weeps from the joint between the pump body and the motor. It is a small part that saves a motor.
