The Waterway 400-9280 is a pump union assembly supplied with a hose adapter and an o-ring. It is the fitting that lets a pump be taken off without cutting into the plumbing.

Why unions earn their place

A pump gets pulled more often than anything else at the equipment pad: seals, impellers, motors, replacements. If it is glued in, every one of those jobs starts with a saw and ends with new couplings and a wait for the cement to set. A union unscrews by hand and the pump lifts straight out.

What sizes does this cover?

The source is not consistent. Does it come with the o-ring?

Yes. The o-ring is part of the assembly.

Why use a union at all?

So the pump can be removed. Glued fittings mean cutting pipe every time the pump comes off for a seal, an impeller or a replacement, while a union unscrews by hand.

My union is dripping. Do I need the whole assembly?

Not always. A drip is often just the o-ring, and it is worth trying that first. Replace the whole assembly when the nut is cracked, cross threaded or the adapter itself is damaged.
