The Pentair 475998 is the thermal fuse replacement kit for the ETI 400 pool heater. It is the genuine Pentair part, supplied as a kit rather than as a bare fuse.

What a thermal fuse does

A thermal fuse is a last line safety device. If the heater exceeds its safe temperature, the fuse opens and the heater stops. It protects the equipment and everything around it, and it is deliberately built so it cannot be reset. Once it has done its job it is replaced.

Do not stop at the fuse

Because the fuse only opens when something else has gone wrong, fitting a new one is half the repair. Look at water flow through the heater, the condition of the filter, and the exhaust path before returning the heater to service, or the replacement will open in turn.

Can the old fuse be reset?
No. A thermal fuse is a one time device. Once it opens, the only fix is a new one.
My fuse blew again after replacing it. Why?
The fuse opens because something made the heater overheat, so a second failure points at the underlying fault rather than the part. Check flow, the exhaust path and the high limit circuit before fitting another one.
