The Hayward ECX1011 is the genuine thrust washer for the Perflex DE filter range, covering the EC-30 and EC-40, the EX-50 and EX-50C, the EC-60 Series II, and the EC-65 and EC-75.
What it does
A thrust washer takes axial load. It sits between a part that moves and a part that does not, so the load passes through a cheap sacrificial piece instead of wearing a groove into something expensive. That makes it a wear part by design, and it is meant to be replaced.
While the filter is apart
Perflex filters do not get opened often, so it is worth doing the small parts together. The filter o-ring and the retainer clip are the usual companions to this washer, and replacing them at the same time saves opening the housing again in a season or two.
