The Hayward ECX4220A is the elbow assembly with check valve for the Perflex DE filter, covering the EC65, EC65A, EC75 and EC75A. It is the genuine Hayward part, supplied as one assembly with the check valve already in it.
What the check valve is doing
The valve inside the elbow only passes flow one way. When the pump stops, that is what prevents water running back through the connection. A check valve that has stopped sealing shows up as a filter that loses prime between cycles, or as DE finding its way back into the pool, and the elbow is often blamed last.
Fitting
The part arrives assembled, so it goes on in place of the old elbow without any separate valve to install. It is molded plastic, the same as the original. Confirm you have a Perflex EC65 or EC75 series filter before ordering, since the elbow is specific to that family.
