Product details
The Hayward ECX5000G is the genuine diaphragm gasket for the Perflex EC-50C and EC-40C DE filters. It is molded rubber and it is the factory part, not an aftermarket copy.
Why gaskets fail
Rubber in a filter lives between heat, chlorine and pressure cycles. Over time it hardens, takes a permanent set in the shape of the groove it sits in, and eventually splits. None of that shows until the filter is opened, which is why a gasket at this joint is usually replaced on sight rather than inspected and reused.
Worth doing once
Opening a Perflex to this depth is most of the job. The gasket itself costs very little against the time involved, so fitting a new one while the filter is already apart avoids doing the same work again a season later.
