The Pentair 619963 is a 300 watt pool light transformer with a 12V to 14V output. It is supplied as a new OEM Pentair part.
What it does
Low voltage pool lights never see line voltage. The transformer sits between the panel and the light circuit and steps the supply down, which is both what the fixtures are designed for and what keeps the circuit safe around water.
The 14 volt tap
Voltage falls off over a long cable run, and a light fed at the far end of one can end up noticeably dim. The 14V output exists to make up that loss, so a lamp at the end of a long run still receives close to what it was designed for. Short runs use the 12V tap.
Sizing
Add the wattage of every fixture on the circuit and keep the total inside the 300 watt rating. If the load is close to the limit, split it across more than one transformer.
