The Hayward XStream above ground filter system pairs a 150 square foot cartridge filter with a 1.5 HP Power-Flo Matrix pump, and ships with the cartridge element, hoses and platform base included.
Why cartridge
There is no backwash valve and no sand bed to replace. When the pressure gauge climbs, the element comes out, gets rinsed or replaced, and goes back in. That also means no water dumped to waste every time the filter needs attention, which matters on an above ground pool where the volume is smaller to begin with.
The 150 square foot size
Cartridge area is what determines how long the filter runs between cleanings. At 150 square feet this is on the large side for above ground use, so it loads up slowly and the pump spends more of its life working against low pressure.
What is in the box
Along with the filter and the pump you get the cartridge filter element, a 1.5 inch FPT hose pack made up of two 6 foot lengths, and the platform base the system sits on. It is a complete package rather than a filter you then have to source parts around.
