The Sta-Rite 14962-0017 is the diverter with gasket for the 1-1/2 inch SwimQuip multiport valve, in both the side mount and top mount arrangements. It is listed on the parts breakdown for valve models 14962 and 14964.

What the diverter does

The diverter is the part that rides inside the valve body and directs flow to whichever port the handle selects. Its gasket is what keeps the other ports sealed off. When that face wears or hardens, water crosses between ports and the valve stops doing a clean job of any setting. The usual symptom is water running out of the waste line while the handle is set to filter.
