The Pentair 192173 is the manifold grid with air relief extension for FNS DE pool filters. It is the genuine Pentair part and covers the FNS24, FNS36, FNS48 and FNS60.
What the manifold grid does
A DE filter holds a set of fabric covered grids standing in the tank. The manifold grid is the one in the middle that the others index against, and it carries the air relief extension that lets trapped air out of the top of the assembly. Because it is the center of the set, damage to it usually means DE bypasses the whole assembly, not just one panel.
Repair one, or replace the set
If the rest of your grids are in good order, replacing the manifold grid on its own is the sensible fix. If the fabric across the set is thin, torn in more than one place, or the grids have been in service for many seasons, a complete grid set is the better value and is available as a separate part.
The usual symptom is DE returning to the pool after a fresh charge. Pull the set, rinse it, and inspect the fabric and the manifold seam before ordering.
