The Pentair 50181311 is a complete, pre-plumbed side mount multiport valve for sand filters, in 2 inch threaded plumbing. It arrives as a full assembly rather than a bare valve body.

What the multiport does

The multiport is the handle that decides where water goes: through the sand to filter, backward through it to backwash, out to waste, or around it entirely. When the handle gets hard to move, will not seat properly between positions, or lets water past to waste while it is set to filter, the valve is worn and the whole assembly is usually the sensible replacement.

Side mount, not top mount

This is the side mount style, which bolts to the side of the filter tank. It is not interchangeable with a top mount valve that sits on the filter lid, so identify which your filter takes before you order.
