Product details

The Pentair SuperFlo 340039 is a single speed pool pump with an up-rated 1.5 HP motor that runs on 115V or 230V. SuperFlo pumps are built for inground pools, with thick walled body parts, a heavy duty 56 square flange motor and a small footprint that suits a tight equipment pad.

Features

The pump is self-priming, and its see-through Cam and Ramp lid lets you check the strainer basket without opening the pot. Unionized fittings for 1.5 in. and 2 in. pipe make installation and later replacement simpler.

Installation

Pentair specifies a minimum of 5 ft from the inside pool wall, 3 ft from a heater outlet, no more than 10 ft above the water level, and 3 in. of rear clearance so the motor can come off for service. Keep any valve, elbow or tee on the suction side at least five pipe diameters from the pump inlet. Wiring must match the motor nameplate, the motor must be grounded and bonded with solid copper wire no smaller than 8 AWG, and the circuit must be GFCI protected.

Care

Look at the strainer basket at least once a week and keep the lid o-ring clean and lubricated. Before freezing weather, shut off power, drain the pump through its two drain plugs and cover the motor, but never wrap it in plastic or other airtight material.

Can I run it on 115V or 230V?
Yes. It is a dual voltage 115/230V pump. Check the motor nameplate and set and wire the motor for the voltage you are supplying, because a supply that does not match the nameplate can permanently damage the motor.
What does up-rated mean?
Up-rated and full-rated describe how a pump motor is rated. An up-rated motor carries a lower service factor than a full-rated motor with the same nameplate horsepower, so when replacing a pump, match the rating type as well as the horsepower.
Where can the pump be installed?
Pentair calls for at least 5 ft from the inside wall of the pool, at least 3 ft from a heater outlet and no more than 10 ft above the water level, with 3 in. of clearance behind the motor for service. Keep suction piping short and keep any valve, elbow or tee at least five pipe diameters from the pump inlet.
How do I prime it?
Fill the strainer pot with water before the first start, seat the lid and clamp, open the air relief valve on the filter and start the pump while standing clear. Close the valve once a steady stream of water appears. Never run the pump dry, because that damages the shaft seal.
