The Hayward W3S310S is the 30 in. side mount sand filter in the Pro Series range. It is supplied as the filter, with no valve.
Side mount, and why that matters
The tank is built for a side mount valve, so the valve bolts to the side of the tank rather than sitting on top of it. A top mount valve will not fit. Because the valve is a separate order, you can choose the one that suits the plumbing you already have.
Living with a sand filter
A sand filter is serviced by backwashing rather than by pulling and rinsing cartridges. That makes routine maintenance a matter of turning a valve, with a media change every several seasons instead of an element change every year or two.
