Product details

The Pentair Sand Dollar SD60 is a top mount sand filter with a 22 inch almond tank, supplied with the 1-1/2 inch multiport valve. The Pentair part number is EC-145322.

How a top mount sand filter works

Water enters through the multiport valve at the top of the tank, travels down through the sand bed, and leaves through laterals at the base. Dirt is trapped in the top layer of the bed. When pressure climbs, you turn the multiport handle to backwash and the flow reverses, lifting the trapped dirt out to waste. The whole cycle runs from one handle, which is why the multiport is the piece people actually interact with.

Before installation

Filter sand is bought separately and loaded on site. Check that the 1-1/2 inch valve matches the plumbing at your pad, and set the filter on a level pad before you fill it, because a sand filter is very difficult to move once the media is in.
