The Pentair 98209804 is the universal manual air valve kit, the small hand operated relief valve that sits on the top of the filter and lets trapped air out.
Why it matters
Every pressurized filter traps air when the system is drained, serviced or restarted after a loss of prime. Until that air is bled off, the filter cannot fill properly and the pressure gauge reads nothing like the real story. Opening the manual air valve until water flows instead of air is the standard step, which is why the valve gets used constantly and eventually leaks, seizes or cracks at the stem.

Before you work on the filter
Treat the filter as pressurized until proven otherwise. Shut the pump down and release all pressure through the air valve before loosening a clamp or a lid, and if the valve will not open, stop and sort that out first.
