What is in the kit
The top assembly is the half of the valve that carries the handle and the moving porting. It comes complete, in plastic, and both decal sets are included so the same kit works whether the valve is sitting on a sand filter or a DE filter. Fit the decal that matches your filter and the positions read correctly for the person using it.
Why replace the top rather than the valve
Valves usually fail at the top. Handles crack, the detent wears, the seal surface scores. The body and the pipe connections underneath are typically fine, and cutting a whole valve out of hard plumbing is a much bigger job than lifting the top assembly off. If the body is sound, this is the repair.
