Why the handle matters

The handle does more than turn the valve. It lifts and locks the diverter into each of the six positions, so a cracked handle or worn splines can leave the valve sitting between ports. That sends filtered water where it should not go, wastes pump energy and can push water past the seal. Replacing the handle is a small repair that avoids replacing the whole valve.
