Hayward Power-Flo Pump Parts

35 products

Work out which Power-Flo you own first. An LX is an SP1580 model, a Power-Flo II an SP1750, SP1775 or SP1780, and a Matrix an SP1591, SP1592 or SP1593. All three take Hayward's SPX1500KA shaft seal, but the Matrix has its own SPX5500 lid, basket, strainer housing and O-rings. Hayward's parts lists give no impeller number for these pumps and say to match the one on the original, so read it off the old impeller before ordering.

Which Power-Flo do you have?

The LX models are SP1580, SP1580X15, SW1585X20, SW1585X25 and EP1550LX; the Power-Flo II is SP1750, SP1775 or SP1780. Hayward prints no impeller number: match the one on the old impeller.

About Hayward Power-Flo Pump Parts

Hayward parts for the Power-Flo LX, Power-Flo II and Power-Flo Matrix: shaft seals, motors with the switch built in, rocker and speed switches, impellers, pump housings and covers, strainer housings, lids and C clips, union connectors, and the O-rings and gaskets that seal them.

Whole pumps are on above ground pool pumps and Hayward pool pumps. Hayward's inground pumps have their own pages for the Super Pump, Super II and TriStar, and every make is on pump parts and motors and pool pump motors.

Two Pool School guides go with these parts. After a new lid O-ring, basket or shaft seal, how to prime a pool pump covers a pump that sits below the water line, as the Power-Flo usually does on an above ground pool. And before ordering a motor for the Power-Flo, motor or whole pump has the tests that tell a failed motor from a jammed impeller.

Questions about Hayward Power-Flo Pump Parts

My Hayward Power-Flo LX will not prime. What should I check?

Its position, first. Hayward says the Power-Flo LX has to be installed below the pool's water line; only the self priming Power-Flo II may sit up to 4 feet above it. Then check that the strainer pot is full and that the lid O-ring, SPX1500P, is clean, seated and greased with Jack's 327. Hayward calls for 1-1/2 inch reinforced hose on the suction side, and a loose hose clamp there lets air in.

Water is dripping from under the motor on my Hayward Power-Flo or Matrix. What part is it?

The shaft seal, SPX1500KA, which Hayward lists for the Power-Flo LX, the Power-Flo II and the Matrix alike. These pumps open from the front: with the hoses off, the strainer slides away once its C clip is lifted, eight screws free the pump cover, and the impeller unscrews to release the spring half of the seal. Hayward says to clean the cover O-ring while it is open and replace it if it is worn.

My Hayward Power-Flo Matrix hums but will not start. Is the motor gone?

Not always. Hayward's Matrix manual gives two causes for a hum without starting: the motor's centrifugal switch stuck open, or a shaft that binds. With the power off, check that the shaft turns freely. Replacement motors come with the switch fitted, SPX1510Z1XE at 1 HP and SPX1515Z1E at 1-1/2 HP, and the Matrix's on and off rocker is sold on its own as SPX1500S8.

Will a Power-Flo LX lid or basket fit my Hayward Matrix pump?

No. Hayward lists separate strainer parts for the Matrix: cover kit SPX5500D with its lock ring and O-ring, basket SPX5500F, strainer housing SPX5500C, C clip SPX5500G and O-rings SPX5500H and SPX5500K. The LX and the Power-Flo II share the other set, clear lid SPX1500D2A, lid O-ring SPX1500P, strainer housing with basket SPX1500CAP and C clip SPX1515C. The drain plug, SPX1700FG, fits all three.

My Hayward Power-Flo runs but hardly pushes any water. Which impeller does it need?

Hayward's lists for the LX, Power-Flo II and Matrix give no single impeller number; they say to go by the part number on the original, so take the old one out and read it. Before that, check the strainer and suction line, which Hayward puts first among the causes of low flow. A plugged or sheared impeller is replaced with a new shaft seal. The high performance impellers here are listed for the SP1520UN LX only.
