Product details

The Hayward SP0735 is a four way ball valve in 1-1/2 in. One handle controls four ports, which is how a single valve replaces a cluster of individual ones on a pool and spa system.

Where a four way earns its place

Any system that has to send flow down more than one path benefits from consolidating that switching into a single handle. Pool to spa changeover is the usual case: instead of turning several valves in the right order and hoping nobody in the household gets it wrong, one movement does it. Fewer joints in the plumbing also means fewer places to leak.

Ball valve construction

A ball valve turns a quarter of a turn from one position to the next, and the ball either lines up with a port or it seals it. There is no slow throttling and no gate to seize part way. That makes it easy to see and feel where the valve is set, which matters when the wrong position can dead head a pump.

What does a four way valve do?
It routes flow between four ports from one handle. On a pool and spa system that is usually how a single pump gets switched between the pool and the spa, on both the suction and the return side, without a bank of separate valves.
What size pipe does it take?
1-1/2 in.
Is it the genuine Hayward part?
Yes. SP0735 is the Hayward part number for the 1-1/2 in. four way ball valve.
When should a valve be replaced rather than rebuilt?
If the body is cracked, the seats are scored, or the ball no longer shuts a port off cleanly, replace the valve. A handle or a seal on its own can be changed, but a valve that passes water when it should be closed is not worth chasing.
