The Hayward PSV3S2 is a 3-way diverter valve from the PSV Series, built in CPVC and sized for 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch plumbing.
What a 3-way valve does
A diverter valve takes one line and points it at either of two others, or splits the flow between them. On a typical pad that is the pool to spa changeover, but the same valve does duty as a heater bypass, a cleaner line feed or the trim on a water feature. The handle sets the position by hand, so adjusting a share of flow is a matter of turning it part way rather than replumbing anything.
Why CPVC
CPVC handles higher temperatures and constant exposure to chlorinated water better than standard fittings, which is why it earns its place downstream of a heater and outdoors in direct sun.
Before you plumb it in
Check which of the two port sizes your run uses and dry fit the valve first. Getting the handle where you can reach it, and where the position is readable at a glance, saves a lot of guessing later.
