Why unions get replaced

The union is the joint that lets you take a pump out without cutting into the plumbing. It also takes the strain every time somebody tightens the nut, so the threads crack, the collar splits, and the o-ring flattens and starts to weep. A union that leaks on the suction side pulls air, and a pump that pulls air loses prime.

What you get

One half of the union with the o-ring for the joint. If the damage is on both sides of the connection, order two. Hand tighten the nut with the o-ring seated and lubricated; a union does not need a wrench, and over tightening is what breaks most of them.
