This is the bottom elbow assembly for the Hayward S-244S sand filter, part number SX244CD2FW. It is the newer version, used on filters made 1996 and later.

Getting the right version

Hayward changed this assembly, so it is worth confirming before ordering. The newer part has S-220EB2 molded into the elbow, on the face where the bulkhead fitting screws in, and the front of the assembly is flat with ridges. If your existing elbow does not match that description, you have the earlier style.

Dimensions

The assembly measures 12-1/4 in. from the back of the elbow to the front where the fitting screws in, and stands 4-3/4 in. tall overall. Measuring the old part against those figures is the quickest confirmation you can do before the new one arrives.

Where it sits

The bottom elbow is the internal connection at the base of the tank, part of the Pro Series side mount sand filter family. It works below the sand bed, so replacing it means emptying the tank, which is a good moment to look at the laterals and the sand at the same time.

How do I know if I need the newer version or the older one?
Look at the face of the assembly where the bulkhead fitting screws in. The newer version, this one, has S-220EB2 molded into it and a flat front with ridges. It was fitted to filters made 1996 and later.
What are the dimensions?
12-1/4 in. long measured from the back of the elbow to the front where the fitting screws in, and 4-3/4 in. tall overall.
Which filters does it fit?
The Hayward S-244S. It is part of the Pro Series side mount sand filter range that also covers the S210S, S220S, S310S and S360S, but this elbow is the S244S size.
Is this the same as the lower elbow with air tube?
No. The lower elbow assembly with air tube is a separate Hayward part. This is the plain bottom elbow assembly.
