Product details

The Hayward W3EC65A is the 34 sqft model in the Perflex Extended-Cycle D.E. filter line, rated at 68 GPM. D.E. filtration is the finest of the three common filter types, and the Perflex removes particles as small as two microns on the first pass.

The bump handle

Perflex cleaning is a handle on top of the tank rather than a strip down. Bumping the handle flexes the patented Flex-Tube elements so they shed dirt and filter powder uniformly, and the powder and dirt mixture reforms into a fresh filtering surface. That is the extended cycle the name refers to.

Built for the pad

The tank is injection molded in high strength, glass filled, chemically coupled PPL, so it does not corrode. The design vents itself of trapped air, an integral check valve stops backflow whenever the pump is off, and the combination pressure gauge threads into an inspection port you can remove when the filter needs attention.

Before you order

The valve is sold separately. If you are replacing an old filter and keeping the existing valve, that is fine; if you are starting from scratch, add a valve to the order.

Is this filter for in-ground or above ground pools?
Hayward describes the Perflex Extended-Cycle for in-ground pools of all types and sizes. It has also been sold as an above ground filter, so if that distinction matters to your plumbing, confirm against the Hayward manual for W3EC65A before ordering.
Does it come with a valve?
No. The valve is sold separately, so plan on reusing the valve on the pad or buying one with the filter.
How is the filter cleaned?
A bump handle on top activates the mechanism. The Flex-Tubes flex and shed the dirt and powder uniformly, so routine cleaning does not mean opening the tank.
What size pool does 34 sqft cover?
This is the 34 sqft model rated at 68 GPM. Match the flow rate to your pump so the filter is not asked to pass more water than it is rated for.
