What the upper housing controls
On an in floor cleaning system, the actuator valve is what sends water to one zone at a time and then steps on to the next. Two things in the upper housing decide how that happens: the diverter, which physically routes flow to the selected port, and the speed control, which sets how quickly the valve indexes. When either wears, zones start getting uneven run time or the valve parks on one port and stops advancing.
