Product details
The SuperPro B-196 is a replacement pump strainer basket for Swimquip pumps, sold in place of Swimquip part number 16920-0017.
What the basket does
It sits in the strainer pot between the suction lines and the impeller and catches leaves, twigs, acorns and anything else the skimmer let through. Everything it holds is debris that never reaches the impeller, the seal or the filter, which is why a pump basket is the cheapest protection on the pad.
When to replace it
Baskets go brittle and crack around the rim and the handle, and a split anywhere in the mesh lets debris straight through to the impeller. A basket that has been crushed or has warped out of round restricts flow even when it is empty, which shows up as lower pressure at the filter and weaker returns. Neither problem is worth living with, and the basket costs a fraction of the impeller it protects.

What does this replace?

Is it the pump basket or the skimmer basket?
The pump basket. It sits in the strainer pot on the pump, not in the skimmer in the pool wall.
Why replace a basket that still holds leaves?
Cracks let debris straight through to the impeller, and a basket that has collapsed or warped restricts flow even when it is empty. Both cost you more than the basket does.
Does the lid or o-ring come with it?
No. This is the basket only. The pump lid and its o-ring are separate parts.
