SX244G is the Hayward top diffuser assembly for the Pro Series and Pro Series Plus side mount sand filters. It is the genuine Hayward part, supplied complete.
What it does
Water entering a sand filter arrives as a single hard stream. The diffuser sits at the top of the tank and spreads that stream across the whole surface of the bed. Without it, the inlet water cuts a channel straight down through the sand and most of the bed stops doing any filtering at all. A cracked or missing diffuser also lets sand migrate, which is how grit ends up back in the pool.
Fitment
Hayward lists this diffuser against the Pro Series side mount tanks S210S, S220S, S244S, S310S and S360S, and the Pro Series Plus S311SX, S311SXV and S360SX. Read the model number off the filter label rather than going by tank size, since the side mount and top mount ranges use different internals.
