Product details

The DEL UV-C 50 is a germicidal ultraviolet sanitizer for pools up to 50,000 gallons. Pool water passes through a single self contained housing where a UV-C lamp tuned to 254 nanometers treats it at flow rates up to 100 GPM.

What UV-C does to pool water

UV-C light breaks apart the DNA and RNA of bacteria, viruses, cysts and protozoa as they pass the lamp, which inactivates them. That includes Cryptosporidium and Giardia, the organisms that resist ordinary chlorine levels. The same energy destroys the organic matter swimmers bring into the water, so fewer chlorine by-products form, chloramines break down, and the chemical smell and eye irritation people blame on chlorine go away.

Built for a single unit install

The 100 GPM housing is sized so one unit covers most residential pools, and because UV-C makes no ozone there is no de-gas vessel or injector manifold to plumb. The electronic ballast runs on either 120 or 240 volts, with integrated fault protection that prevents start-up if a lamp problem is detected, and a pre-heat design that extends lamp life.

Service details

A green LED on the cover confirms the unit has power and is switched on, and a cover interlock cuts that power when the cover comes off. The ventilated glow ring gives visual confirmation that the lamps are lit while letting air in and keeping moisture away from the ballast, and a heat shield protects the cover, secures the lamp connections and keeps moisture off them. A built in valve with an internally shaped endcap drains the housing completely for winterizing. The unit can also be paired with a DEL ozone generator for advanced oxidation.

Does this replace chlorine?
No. UV-C sharply reduces chlorine demand and breaks down chloramines, but it is designed to work alongside a residual sanitizer rather than instead of one.
What size pool does one unit cover?
Up to 50,000 gallons. The high flow housing handles rates up to 100 GPM, which is enough for most residential pools without a second unit.
Does it produce ozone?
No. UV-C does not create ozone, which is why the system needs no de-gas unit or injector manifold.
Is this the same thing as the Eclipse UV?
Yes. The DEL UV-C 50 was formerly sold under the Eclipse UV name.
