What it is

A nipple is a short length of pipe threaded at both ends, used to join two female fittings. This one is the 1/2 in. size in the short length used on those Rainbow feeders.

Why it fails

Chlorine feeder plumbing sits in about the harshest chemical environment on an equipment pad. Threads corrode, plastic goes brittle, and a fitting that sealed for years starts to weep. It is a low cost part to renew whenever the feeder is opened for service.
