Product details

The Pentair R172221Z is the genuine o-ring for the Rainbow Dynamic Series drain and vent valve. It is listed on the Pentair Rainbow chlorinator parts breakdown for models HC-3315, HC-3330 and 3340, and on the Pentair Dynamic Filter Series II RTLRCF breakdown.

What it does

The drain and vent valve is what lets you relieve pressure and drain the feeder before opening it. Its o-ring is the only thing holding water back at that point, and once the ring has hardened, flattened or picked up a nick from chemical residue, the valve weeps whenever the system runs.

Worth doing properly

This is a low cost part that gets skipped and then costs a second trip. Fit the factory ring while the valve is already apart, and lubricate it with a seal safe lubricant rather than petroleum grease.

What does this o-ring seal?

Can I use a hardware store o-ring?
It rarely holds. The factory ring is cut to the groove it sits in, and a ring that is close on diameter but wrong on cross section seats badly and drips again.
