What it does
The drain and vent valve is what lets you relieve pressure and drain the feeder before opening it. Its o-ring is the only thing holding water back at that point, and once the ring has hardened, flattened or picked up a nick from chemical residue, the valve weeps whenever the system runs.
Worth doing properly
This is a low cost part that gets skipped and then costs a second trip. Fit the factory ring while the valve is already apart, and lubricate it with a seal safe lubricant rather than petroleum grease.
