Product details

The Pentair R172385D is the complete lid assembly for the Rainbow HC series high capacity automatic chemical feeders: the HC-3315, HC-3330 and HC-3340.

Why the lid is the part that fails

A chemical feeder lid spends its life directly above concentrated chlorine tablets, under pressure, in full sun. Chlorine gas attacks the plastic from below and UV works on it from above. Threads seize, the plastic crazes, and eventually the lid will not seal no matter how hard it is tightened.

What you get

Pentair supplies this as the complete lid assembly rather than as separate pieces, so the parts arrive matched to each other and to the feeder body.

While the feeder is open

The lock ring and the lid o-ring are separate Rainbow parts. If either looks tired, replace them during the same job. Shut the feeder down and relieve the pressure before opening it, and be ready for chlorine gas trapped under the lid.

Why do these lids fail?
A feeder lid sits directly above concentrated chlorine tablets and takes full sun. The combination attacks the plastic until it crazes, cracks or seizes on the threads.
Do I need the lock ring or the o-ring too?
Those are separate Rainbow parts. If the ring is worn or the seal is hard and flat, replace them at the same time so you only open the feeder once.
