Product details

The Pentair R172052 is the cap wrench for the Rainbow automatic chlorinator feeders. It is listed for models 300, 302, 300-19, 300-29, 300-29X, 320 and 322.

What it is for

Feeder lids are tightened by hand and then sit in the sun, in chlorine, for a season. When it is time to refill, the cap will not budge. The wrench fits the lid and lets you turn it evenly, which is the difference between opening the feeder and cracking it.

Worth keeping on the shelf

This is an inexpensive tool that is only ever needed at an inconvenient moment. If you run a Rainbow feeder, it belongs in the equipment cabinet next to the tablets. Clean the lid threads while the feeder is open and the next one will come off more easily.

Is it a genuine Pentair tool?
Yes. It is Pentair part number R172052.
Why not just use a strap wrench?
A cap wrench made for the lid spreads the load across the lugs. Improvised tools tend to mark the cap, and a cracked feeder lid is a much bigger bill than the wrench.
My lid is stuck solid. Will this free it?
It gives you proper leverage on the cap, which is usually what is missing. Chemical residue in the threads is the other half of the problem, so clean them before closing the lid again.
