The Pentair R172023Z is the poly chlorinator tubing for Rainbow automatic chlorine and bromine pool and spa feeders, models 300 and 302. It measures 3/8 in. on the outer diameter, 1/4 in. on the inner diameter, and comes in an 8 ft. length.
Why it fails
The feed line spends its whole life in contact with concentrated feeder solution. That hardens the poly over a season or two until it cracks, usually right at a compression fitting where the tube is squeezed. A cracked line dribbles chemical onto the pad, which then goes to work on the concrete and on anything metal nearby.
Fitting it
Cut the new tube square, and replace the compression nuts and any check valve in the line if they are as old as the tubing was. Getting the whole feed path fresh at once avoids a second leak a week later at the fitting you reused.
